Don’t Forget Where You Come From
James 2:1-9
Dean Mileto
Introduction: When we forget where we come from, we forget about the grace and mercy Jesus Christ applied (applies) to our life – “while we were yet sinners”
I. Sometimes great books don’t have great covers – vv 1-3
- Gold rings showed who they were, but did not reveal who they were (Did you ever meet a “wannabee”?)
- Vile raiment – (Humpty Dumpty people)
II. Its okay to come into the church door, but my door; that’s a different story – vv 4
- Remember Jabez – enlarging our coast takes us out of our comfort range
- Under the influence of improper thoughts – God sees the heart
- Allow others to see our Humpty shell
III. God’s view of rich people is not the world’s view of rich people – vv. 5-9
- Sure you can” – A missionary’s story
- When we forget where we come from, we are blinded to who we have become.
- It’s the royal law because it demands brokenness
Conclusion: God can only use broken people put back together by the power of the cross, the applied cover of His mercy, and the infusion of His grace.
