  • Progeny and superiority in nature
  • Flesh added to diet

II. Sanctity of life – vv. 5-7

  • Orderly rule even to capital punishment
  • Romans 13:1-7

III. Exchange of authority – vv. 8-17

  • From the flood of divine judgment to human government
  • The promised sign: rainbow

IV. Handle with care – vv. 18-29

  • From sober with drunks to drunk with the sober
  • Ham’s disrespect versus Shem and Japheth’s love – 1 Peter 4:8
  • Prophecy
    • Ham’s curse
    • Shem’s heritage – Jews
    • Japheth’s enlargement

Conclusion – Noah saw two worlds but saw a better one when he died.

Introduction – God does not hold a grudge but shows His mercy in the midst of his judgment. – Habakkuk 3:2

I. Remember me? – vv. 1-5

  • Easy to think God has forgotten us. – Job14:13
  • God remembers us to save – the wind.
  • Though tossed with tempests, rest was found.

II. Grace above law – vv.6-12

  • The raven – Carnal heart – feeds on the world
  • The dove – gracious soul, finds no place of rest – returns to ark (Christ)
  • The raven – law
  • The dove – gospel hope – Romans – 8:3,4

III. Life preserved – vv. 13-19

  • Dry ground – fit habitation
  • Appointed time – Habakkuk 2:3 – 1 year 10 days
  • All were saved

IV. Thankful worship – vv. 20-22

  • Sacrifice first – Genesis 7:2,3
  • God’s acceptance – pleased – never again
  • Grace works with judgment to save
  • God’s guarantee – cycles

Conclusion –

  1. God has not forgotten you.
  2. Trust in what God has done not what we can do.
  3. God knows best what we need and when.
  4. Our proper response: sacrificial worship.

I. The gracious call – vv. 1-4

  • Thy house – a Godly man’s influence
  • Obedience before trouble – Hebrews 11:1

II. Noah’s faithful response – vv. 5-9; 13-16

  • Faith not sense
  • Provision for others
  • The security of faith – I Peter 1:5
  • Leaving the old life

III. Judgment delivered – vv. 11-12; 17-20

  • After securing His people- Isaiah 26:20-21
  • Prevailed over all

IV. Desolation complete – vv. 21-22

  • All Flesh – Psalm 46:8

V. The Rescue – vv. 23-24

  • Monument of mercy – Psalm 32:6
  • Special preservation – Psalm 32:7-11

Conclusion: Faithful obedience brings the most pleasant life here and in the life to come.

  • Deliberate, constant evil – Psalm 14:1-3

II. God’s holy displeasure – vv. 6-7

  • Grieved to heart – wronged
  • Changed His way – displeased – destruction

III. Grace found – Romans 11:29

  • His character – vv. 8-10
  • God’s purpose – vv.13,17 – secret – Psalm 25:14
  • Ark of Safety – vv. 14-16 – watchman – I Peter 3:18-20
  • Preserving creatures – vv. 18-21

IV. Obedience displayed – v. 22

  • Faith’s effect – Philippians 2:2b
  • Readily and resolute
  • Preparation to meet

Conclusion – Hebrews 11:7 – Noah’s axes and hammers were a call to repentance – to prepare – Noah’s folly was the world’s demise.

  • Prudent manager – vv. 16-18, 21-22
  • Cares for family – v. 15,27a
  • Charitable – v. 20
  • Discreet in language – v.26
  • Pure hearted – v. 30

III. A good woman’s happiness

  • Contentment of virtue – v.25
  • Commendation of family – v. 28
  • Consensus of praise – v. 31

Conclusion – Let women strive to be this good woman. Let her family recognize and praise her for what she has done.

  • Cain recognized God as source of good
  • Lacked a recognition of sin and need for atonement

II. Identifying false religion

  • Worships in self –will – Genesis 4:3; 2 Peter 2:1a
  • Angry with God – Genesis 4:6; 2 Peter 2:10
  • Refuses a sin offering – Genesis 5:7b; 2 Peter 2:1
  • Murders and lies to cover – Genesis 4:8-10

III. The mark of true religion

  • Approaches God through a sacrifice – Genesis 4:4; Hebrews 9:22; 11:4
  • Confessed himself a sinner
  • Expressed his faith by a substitute lamb- John 1:29

Conclusion: God continues to call men to faith in Himself despite man’s stubborn refusal – Genesis 4:7a; Romans 5:20

Conclusion – Thank God for His provision to remedy the curse we could not carry.
