I. A massive family – vv. 2-6

• Reconciling God’s providences and promises
• Promise of His own son – Numerous – Romans 9:4
• Firm belief – Romans 4:19-21

II. A land to match – vv. 7-21

• God’s intention – A land to possess
• Help my unbelief! – Prepare a sacrifice
• Attend without distraction
• Future prediction
• Covenant ratification : smoking furnace and burning lamp
• A light in affliction

Conclusion – Any believer discouraged by the darkness of this life can be encouraged by the light of God’s Word.

Who’s Your Daddy?

I. Abram’s priority

• Righteous cause – refreshment of grace
• Giving peace – blessed Abram from God – blessed God from Abram
• Tithed the spoils

II. Abram’s refusal

• The pay of a life service
• Holy contempt
• His oath
• His reasoning – whose credit?

III. Looking long

• Gracious visit – a vision
• Conquering fear after faith
• Promise of safety and reward

Conclusion: Choosing God in this life holds the everlasting promise in the next.

• Preparation made ahead – In peace time
• Religion makes valiant – strategy –Judges 7:16

IV. Abrams righteous splash – vv.15-16

• Success through protection – I Samuel 14:6
• A friend in need – Proverbs 17:17
• Rescue for just and unjust –Matthew 5:45

Conclusion: Isaiah 41:2 God gave Abram title to his land by grant and now by conquest!

I. The Call – v. 1

• Unmistakably God – Acts 7:2-3
• Get, Now! – 1 Timothy 6:11a; 2 Timothy 2:22a
• Replace natural affection with divine grace
• Trust further than we see
• Surrendering to the call becomes gain – Proverbs 9:12

II. The Promise – vv. 2-3

• A great progeny
• A blessed life
• A great name – 1 Samuel 2:8
• A blessing to others
• An offense and defense
• All will receive blessing – Messiah – Acts 2:12

Conclusion – The greatest blessing is to be in Christ by Grace – Matthew 12:50

Introduction – When man rejects God’s wisdom in order to build his own dynasty, he always lands in a state of confusion.

I. Unanimously wrong – vv. 1-3

• One language less separation
• Fruitful plain of Shinar
• Come together right now – cities

II. The opposite end – v. 4

• To reach heaven
• Make a name – posterity
• To prevent dispersion – Genesis 9:1
• In one place, one man would rule

III. God’s spoil – vv. 5-9

• Came as judge – Job 40:11-14 – for their oneness and obstinacy
• Merciful – language and place

Conclusion – Man will only come together one more time for a much different yet proper cause – to give glory to God – Matthew 25:31-32; Philippians 2:9-11
